3 Factors That Will Determine Your SUCCESS As An Entrepreneur
By Trevor Adheen
“Hype” is not one of them.
When people are shelling out their hard earned money for a product or service, they want to know how solid is the person [in terms of integrity and character] behind that product or service. If you think that selling is “hype’ then you should give up selling products and services altogether. You will be disappointed in the long run-let lone the frustration that you will have built up inside you.
In fact, selling is one of the skills most people shy away from. Yet, it is the most useful skill needed in our every day life–whether you are willing to admit that or not. We all sell something everyday. We sell information and ideas to our children, spouses, teachers, bosses -you get the picture– and we do this every single day. Then, why do we cringe when we hear the word “sales” The answer is that think we have to apply “hype” to sell our product, and hype-we all know it instinctively –is not a natural characteristic in our life.
So, now that we recognize that we know that hype does not work what then?
Oh! Glad you asked.
For you entrepreneurs, to develop superior selling skills, you must address these three basic components. It will do wonders for you in raising money for your business, and developing sound business practices that will produce unlimited wealth in your lifetime. These skills are:
1. Setting worthy Goals
2. Making wise Decisions
3. Taking shrewd Actions
First, establishing goals is like taking a vacation away from home. Since you will be laying out a good chuck of money, you want to get the best bang for your bucks. So, you decide what the trip will cover and the objective -what you will get out of the vacation. It could be that you were overworked and stressed and you need to recharge your batteries before you lose your mind and go nuts- bananas. By establishing goals you are actually mapping out a path for your future success in the area of your interest.
But this process is not yet over, you must have a clear mental picture of what you want to accomplish and be totally focused upon it so you see the results you desire all the while having your dreams and desires firmly implanted in your mind. And, you must make a commitment by writing them all down. If you do not write it down they become wishes-and never get fulfilled.
Next up, is Decision making. You will need to make clear, concise decisions that are vital for your success in the endeavor. You cannot be careless in decision making or you will pay a high price for the mistakes you will make. To avoid this you will have to have some kind of timetable and prioritizing schedule to make the process work and this will also help to spot mistakes as they rise and to correct those mistakes in a timely manner.
Third, when you set up a plan to map out the progress of you activity, you feel more confident to make a decision, a strong decision, because you have the monitoring plan to guide you, a guidepost, that will give you that confidence level to make those hard decisions.
These three factors are not all that you need for total success in your life. You need to learn and apply some more. As a matter of fact there are ten (10) of these factors which you can earn how to apply to your life and became a tremendous success in anything you do. Once you practice them and become skilled at them you will never fail at whatever you put your hands on.
To learn about these factors in depth, follow the link in my bio box below and see for yourself how dramatic and dynamic your life can become.
Keep Your Eyes On The Prize
By Anthony Idem
“The only obstacles that one sees are when they take their eyes off their goals.” -Anonymous
Elegantly put. Powerful in its brevity and its simplicity.
The quest for business success leads down many paths and doesn’t spare any from the roadblocks and setbacks that are sure to arise on the way. No, you are not special (at least not in that regard). There is nothing new under the sun! The difficulties that you are experiencing are not just some karmic payback from a former life filled with wrongdoing. You have set out on perhaps one of the most difficult and yet rewarding journeys in the business world. The setbacks are just the price you pay for the results you want. With that being said it is important to condition your mind to be in it for the long haul.
I cannot stress the importance of keeping up the right mindset. You have to EXPECT to succeed in you business. See it in your mind. Imagine how it will feel when you get to your goal. Speak it to yourself every single day. Cultivate an atmosphere of success that is so powerful that it starts to attract EVERYTHING you want to you. When you do this, roadblocks, setbacks and obstacles will no longer matter at all. You will see challenges as having been already worked out and you will just look for the proper avenue to get over, around or through them. See ONLY what you want to happen! Focus on strengthening your mind every day. Great success is just a matter of time to those who can persevere and approach their business as a marathon rather than a sprint. Attack each problem as it arises and don’t worry about the “what ifs.”
Keep the company of people who share similar values or are striving for great things in their own lives as well. DO not be “unequally yoked.” If someone can’t “see” your vision of success, let em go because your dream isn’t too big, its likely that their heads are just too small. But in all things be content and proud of yourself for embarking on the mission to have a “life” rather than just “making a living.”
What Are Your Chances Of Survival?
By Pam Lawhorne
Statistics show that thousands of people are being laid off from their jobs every day. With that in mind, it’s no wonder that more than 1500 new businesses are started daily. The sad thing is that out of the more than 1500 businesses that are started daily, more than half of them will fail within five years. For every new company started, 1 out of 3 will not make it past the 2 year mark and less than 1 out of 2 will make it past the 4 year mark or longer. What are your chances of survival?
Have you ever seen the realty TV show where people are left on an island to see who will last until the end? Well the show starts out with them being split into teams, working together as a unit and learning to master skills that will help them to survive on the island. Everyone’s working really hard to make sure things work out. For all involved, it’s important to make sure that everyone likes you so that you don’t get voted off. Does this sound familiar? I think this as being eerily similar to a “job”. You want the boss to like you. You want your colleagues to like you. You do everything you can to please everyone so that you can “stay” at your job and move up the employee ladder. You are trying to survive.
After a few episodes the friendliness wears off. You quickly see the teamwork disappear. You start to see one or two people “team up” in order to form an alliance. The real survival mode has just begun. This is where most people learn that “team work” does not always work when it comes to surviving. Sometimes you and the team are not in one accord! I consider this the same as becoming an entrepreneur. It may be hard to get other people to work with you in order to see your vision. It may be difficult to get others on board. The time and cost associated with being an entrepreneur is mind blowing. You are constantly operating in survival mode because if you do not, simply put - you won’t eat amongst other things. My question to you again is will you survive?
People always want to know what is that one thing that makes me different from the next person. Why have I been able to accomplish what I have been able to do in such a short amount of time considering my background? I have been told that I have “it” or what my one of my friends have referred to as being a “yellow Lamborghini” because just like a yellow Lamborghini, she feels that what I have is rare and you only see it occasionally … if ever. The funny thing is that I don’t see myself in this light at all. Why? Because I am a survivor and I operate in survival mode.
The other day I had one of my consulting clients ask me how is it that I get up everyday and do what I do. I told her that I operate in survival mode at least 95% of the time. (Notice I did not say 100% of the time because like you, I am human and have flaws.) Survival mode to me is doing what I must do even when I do not want to do it. It’s making sacrifices that I sometimes do not want to make. It’s about taking chances that most people will not take. It’s about making decisions that I’m not always certain are correct. It’s about being in the moment and doing what’s necessary. It’s knowing that each day I must make some upward strides to move me in the direction of where I want to be versus making lateral moves. It’s about doing things today that others will not do so that tomorrow I can have what others may not have. Entrepreneurship is just that - survival. You do what you need to do to make your business successful and what - SURVIVE THE STATISTICS!
Becoming a successful entrepreneur is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. In order to survive you need to prepare yourself for the long haul. If the statistics are against you then who is for you? The only person you know that you can count on 100% unconditionally is you. So go out and make it happen!
The First Year In Business - Four Lessons Learned
Author: Evann Remington
“I am going to make fresh, organic food for kids. It will be fun.” Little did I know that what I was actually saying was “I am going to enter into the food manufacturing industry with no experience”. The business was actually launched in early 2007 producing organic meals for children in Salem, Oregon. A reflection on my first year has yielded four lessons learned.
Lesson 1: In hindsight I believe that very naiveté is what carried my company through those first few months. I had no idea that what I set out to do is nearly impossible, which made my grand visions attainable. However, I have not been able to do it on my own. The key principle, I believe, is to surround oneself with exceptional and experienced people. Not necessarily your friends, but trusted people who you know to have different skill sets than your own - people who will “tell you as it is.” Finding said people is not an easy task. One thing I was told early on from an investor is that he was not investing in my product or company, he was investing in me. You attract talented people by selling yourself as an entrepreneur first and selling the actual business concept second. Dealing with rejection is just part of the game in these early stages. You must be able to put yourself out there by picking up the telephone and participating in any event you can find to sell yourself. Eventually, if you are interesting, passionate and simply a person people want to be around, the talented people will come.
Lesson 2: The drive that exists in an entrepreneur is what keeps you working when everyone else has gone home and refuses to take no for an answer. This is the force behind a brand-new company and the sole reason an idea is transformed into a passion. However, this same entrepreneur must recognize when to shift roles from the excited driving force to the reserved strategic planner and leader. I have found this transformation to be critical as someone must be looking at the big picture. As a company grows and begins to gain momentum, somebody must be “steering the ship.”
Lesson 3: Cash is king. If you are out of cash, you are out of business. We hear about it all the time, but how true it is. As new businesses we must find new and sometimes creative ways to preserve our working capital.
Lesson 4: People talk and write often about time management. But when you are the president of a company, especially a new company, you must be spending time, effort and resources on activities that are immediately relevant, necessary and profitable. My personality tends to be people pleasing and polite. I am happy to speak with anyone who shares my passion for organic foods, healthy eating for kids and sustainable practices to save our planet. Although this all makes for great and inspiring conversation, it is not always the best use of resources.
The four lessons I learned are people, leadership, cash flow and resource management when starting a company. However, I believe the real challenge is constant improvement and always being willing to learn new lessons. Our job as business leaders in a company is never complete. This is what makes life as an entrepreneur so challenging and so rewarding.
